Nuovo Ponte sul Torrente Pora – Finale Ligure

2024-01-12T15:31:34+01:00

The concept comes out as a physical, environmental and receptive idea investigated around the Finale Ligure domain. The main ambition stresses the attention to the complexity of the surrounding orographic and hydraulic landscapes as well as its identities, by focusing on the dialogue between community and environment.
The functional traits of the artefact and its accessibility aspects resemble the local skyline and its natural shapes, making it into an organic landmark. The form mimics the orographic lines, while the colors the one of the pitched roofs; also, the pedestrian path resembles the hiking trails with their timber deking.
The single span leads to a simple and fluid shell, which changes its appearance by revealing its geometries through the progressive changing of the day solar cycle. The absence of pillars keeps the river flow free and the orchards below untouched. However, interventions on the river banks will be technically necessary for hydraulic capacity.
Lastly, the skin is covered in metal panels that rhythmically guide the physical development of the sides, enhancing the view from the banks.

HQ Campus

2023-06-14T11:26:45+02:00

Nature is the creation of value and identity, from well-being to biodiversity. The building develops around an oval courtyard and a tree-lined garden, the real beating heart of the campus. Light and air permeate the interior work and reception spaces, creating a three-dimensional spatial unicum. Il campus è pensato come un villaggio urbano, composto dalla corte giardino, la piazza e le strade, dove le cellule funzionali gravitano nello spazio aperto costruito attorno la corte verde. This “void” becomes the stage for social, intellectual and productive functions, allowing flexible and adaptable configurations over time.
The shell, in an attempt to mediate between the nearby horizontal landscape of the Romagna countryside and the presence of large industrial volumes, is readable as a real “container”, defined by the succession of massive elements with a trapezoidal section that generate rhythm and shading on the entire perimeter of the ground floor. The first floor, on the other hand, has a coplanar facade where opaque surfaces alternate with transparent surfaces covered by a protective skin made with a metal mesh with specific functional characteristics and performance but which at the same time emphasises the architectural gestures and gives character to the entire building.
The ecological benefits of the green roof complete the design of the “fifth facade”, an element of connection with the free space of the sky. These, together with the passive energy strategies adopted and the electricity supply provided by the photovoltaic sensors, guarantee the highest standard of comfort for the users of the property and a reduction to a minimum of energy consumption.

The scenography designed for the TEDx Cesena 2022 event starts from a reflection on the meaning of work, understood as the meeting point between abstraction and concreteness, thought and matter, idea and reality. In the splendid setting of the Bonci Theatre, the historic theatre of the city of Cesena, 180 sheets of paper with hand-written words on them were hung one by one. The material chosen for the realisation of the installation is not by chance paper: paper is a light and at the same time resistant material that, for example in the object of the book, is the support that allows the drafting of the concept, the concretisation of the idea and, therefore, the birth of the work. All the sheets present were handmade by inmates of the Forlì prison (Cartamanolibera), demonstrating the strong social component that TED possesses: everyone can have ideas that are worth sharing with the community, even the ‘last ones’. The aesthetic references of the installation are Boetti’s Initial Energy and 5 Elements, the work of Korean artist Seon Ghi Bahk, the pavilions of the Venice Architecture Biennale of Latvia in 2014 and Spain in 2021. The scenography was created with the idea of being participated in by the public, in fact it is intended to give the spectators the opportunity to leave a written mark on the sheets of the installation, inviting them to share what the meaning of OPERA is for each of them. The tangible, written sign was left by the hand of artist Simone Cannolicchio, an expert in graphism and calligraphy, who brought back the spectators’ previously collected words. Once in the theatre, the spectator is therefore part of a process of sharing ideas with the speakers of the event and at the same time is immersed in an enveloping atmosphere of which he or she is a part.

Villa al Monte

2023-11-29T12:54:10+01:00

A stone’s throw from the Abbey on “Monte di Cesena”, roofs and meadows come together and blend together thanks to the gentle slopes of the land.
The project is a single-family building for residential use. It is immersed in the green hills of Cesena, inserted in an environmental fabric characterised for the most part by the villas and the detached houses with large green spaces.
The renovation involves a considerable volumetric expansion and this is manifested in the construction of a new access staircase to the upper floor which creates a double-height space. In addition to energy efficiency and seismic risk reduction, the most interesting intervention is concentrated in the demolition of the current roof and in the subsequent construction of a new gabled roof with a wooden structure, the only portion of the building visible from the street. The particular conception of the roof structure attempts a close dialogue with the surrounding landscape, welcoming it and silently reinserting itself into the nature of which it is a guest, without disturbing. This result has been possible thanks to long beams exposed to the sun and wind that protrude from the building.

Solidarity Emporio

2023-06-05T11:14:44+02:00

The initiative starts with the decision to create a Solidarity Emporium for the city of Cesena: a space where you can find food products to support the weakest sections of the population. A combined action from the whole community that contributes in creating a social network between the promoters and the families most in difficulty, a concrete response to this real issue.
The project, financed by PNRR funds, consists of two elements: an existing building (the Market on the ground floor and the spaces for the corollary activities on the first floor) and a new building (the Warehouse). The two parts interact directly thanks to a common thread that, starting from the Warehouse, reaches the Market, marking all the phases of product redistribution in a circular flow that returns from the city to its citizens.
In particolare il Market, l’attività principale dell’Emporio, si costituisce di uno spazio di servizio per la pulizia e per lo smistamento di merci provenienti dal magazzino, un desk di ingresso e un’area polivalente. In particular, the Market, the main activity of the Emporium, consists of a service space for cleaning and sorting goods from the warehouse, an entrance desk and a multipurpose area. Instead, the Warehouse, characterised by a stereometric volume, fits coherently into the adjacent artisan context, differentiating itself through the use of a reflective aluminium finish visible from the public road axis.

Casa di Gesso

The school plays an important social role within the city community by involving several generations, especially young and very young ones, it helps the growth of their relation to the world of theatre and representation. Starting from the spatiality of the traditional agricultural equipment, the building is reorganised to house the functions necessary for carrying out the activities including graphic arts, music and theatre. The building opens to the neighbouring countryside through an intervention on the old portico which is buffered by a large glass diaphragm and a large sliding sunbreaker high across the floor, shielding the main front. This element becomes a scenic backdrop for internal activities and is made with a metal structure that supports many brick elements that can rotate independently, triggering a “playful” interaction between the young actors and the architecture itself. Inside, behind the sunscreen, there is a large triple-height multipurpose room that becomes the beating heart of the building and a place to host events and shows produced by the school.

The bridge is located along Viale Ferrara, in Cesenatico, in a central position with respect to the historic city centre and the seaside town. It plays a strategic role and it is used within the cycle and pedestrian infrastructure scheme. At present, it is in a state of significant decay, which makes it particularly unsafe and unsuitable to accommodate residents, tourists and visitors. The design starts from the opportunity to restore a public building that has long been waiting for the right attention. It takes into account the urban, environmental and landscape peculiarities of the place of intervention through the choice of materials and construction techniques suitable for reducing the sections involved and harmonising the impact of its presence. The new bridge is a creation of contemporaneity through history, with particular attention to the transition between the historic city and the seaside city, and the primary objective of preserving and intensifying the historical and cultural contexts. Lightness and memory are the guiding keywords of all design, aesthetic, material and structural choices.

Rifugio Monte Altissimo

2023-05-26T12:14:11+02:00

The new Refuge on Mount Altissimo was created as a physical, environmental and receptive expression of the Borno district projected into the future. The ambition pursued is the creation of a building-landscape that can narrate through its forms the identity and complexity of the mountain, the dialogue with the context and the integration with the technical character of the mountain station of the new cableway. All this without relinquishing its role as an icon, easily perceived and recognisable, within the environmental and receptive system of the summit. The formal language, through a strong similarity with the orographic and tectonic landscape of the mountain, represents the link between the functional character of the ‘Refuge’ building and the inclusive aspect of accessible reception, primary in the
conception. The spectacular view from the esplanade at the summit, the horizontal surface and its 360-degree panoramic view, deeply inspired the overall vision and suggested the shapes and curves that become the narrative voice of the artefact.

Officine Battistini

2023-10-17T13:00:43+02:00

Located in Cesena, close to the historical centre and the railway station, the project consists in the recovery and redevelopment of the former Officine Battistini – an artisanal building dating back to the 1940s – through the construction of university residences and services dedicated to students, such as study rooms, refreshment areas and commercial spaces.
The proposed intervention envisages the reorganisation and partly the transformation of the existing building, in which the common areas and some residences have been allocated, and the addition of a tower block on the west side, intended to house the largest number of dwellings. The attention paid to environmental and climate aspects in the design phase is also significant. In this regard, analyses were carried out and design choices pursued to better meet the requirements and thus reduce the impact on climate and the environment.

Lympha

2023-05-26T12:50:59+02:00

The Mazzarini vein is a historic canal, perpendicular arm of the harbour canal and parallel to the coast line, which marks the border between the seaside area of Cesenatico and the residential area near the historic centre. The project aim is to transform this clear separation into communication: to give back to the community a historically important place, anticipating the reappropriation and repopulation of this urban void which becomes “Lympha” for the city of Cesenatico. The strategy consists in starting from revitalising the ecosystem of the canal which is currently in complete degradation, and reconnecting the natural habitat to the urban one. Through the vegetation of the banks and waters, acting as a phytopurification filter, the project aims to mitigate the negative effects produced by the anthropogenic ecological footprint. From an architectural point of view, recalling the collective imagination of bathing platforms and fishermen’s huts, the stopping points and paths on the banks and on the water create a dynamic and stimulating dialogue between architecture and nature. La Vena rejoined and restored the life of the city, through the generous and quiet connection between man and nature.
